Geology of the Archean Upper Beaver oxidised intrusion-related Au-Cu deposit (Kirkland Lake, Ontario)

The ca. 2680 Ma Upper Beaver deposit represents an enigmatic oxidised intrusion-related Au-Cu deposit located in the southern Abitibi Greenstone belt. The deposit is hosted in a composite felsic to intermediate intrusion of early Timiskaming-age that is localised to the stratigraphic contact of the Tisdale and Blake River groups. Mineralisation is expressed as two styles: (1) the “Dog’s Breakfast” skarnoid, an early concordant calc-alkalic and Fe-oxide stratabound replacement-style alteration associated with chalcopyrite-pyrite-gold mineralisation; (2) discordant chalcopyrite-molybdenite-magnetite-hematite-gold vein system, spatially associated to monzodiorite and quartz-monzonite dykes. This presentation will focus on the deposit geology, with emphasis on the “Dog’s Breakfast” skarnoid.
